The age old question: beard balm or beard oil? Well, maybe not age old, but for us modern day beardsmen this is a question that we each have to ask ourselves when it comes to ensuring beard health and appearance. Although there are a lot of similarities between the two different products, there are some key differences between the two, along with between different types of each product, that you should definitely keep in mind whilst shopping.
According to Beardbrand founder Eric Bandholz, when it comes to balms you have two options to choose from: conditioning or sculpting. The difference here mostly has to do with what your goal is: conditioning balms include various butters and help provide your beard with nutrients, while sculpting balms are designed to give shape to your beard and might make it a bit heavier to the touch. Beard oils, however, are a bit lighter and act mostly as a way to provide moisture and shine to your beard.
Which is right for you? Well, that’s totally your call. You can use a combination of a few products or simply opt for whichever works best with your unique facial hair. Our one big suggestion though: make sure to avoid products containing silicones, both you and your beard will thank us in the long term.
