Ever heard of solid cologne? If not, don’t worry – you’re not alone. Most guys are familiar with traditional spray colognes, but what they don’t know is that there is an alternative to those spray fragrances, and that’s where solid colognes come in. Today Eric is here to explain what they are, how to use them, and where to get some of the best on the market.
Solid colognes are typically beeswax-based, or even vegetable oil or jojoba oil based, layered with a fragrance. Sounds like a beard balm or mustache wax, right? Well you’re not totally wrong, however you have to keep in mind that with balms and waxes, the fragrance percentage is substantially lower than in a solid cologne, as their main function is style and hold, not scent.
It’s also important to note that pure scents can be quite expensive, and Eric points out that lower priced perfumes and colognes are often a result of synthetic fragrances. Natural fragrances tend to be milder and purer in scent, and solid colognes are built to be more slow-release give off a more mellow scent.
