ABYSSINIAN OIL
Products we use it in: Utility Oil
What it is: Abyssinian oil, also known as "Crambe Abyssinica Seed Oil," is extracted from the seeds of the Crambe Abyssinica plant, which is commonly found in tropical northeastern Africa.
Why we use it: Abyssinian oil is loaded with omega fatty acids and emollients that condition the skin. It helps soften and soothe skin while reinforcing the skin’s protective layer, helping to prevent dehydration. Abyssinian oil is non-greasy and adds instant shine, hydration, and protection to hair. Abyssinian oil is not known to impact the body’s natural production of DHT, making it an excellent essential oil for Beard Oil.

What it is: Aloe vera leaf extract is produced from the succulent leaves of the aloe plant, Aloe barbadensis. It has been used for centuries to treat sunburns, scrapes, cuts, rashes, and dry skin.
Why we use it: Aloe barbadensis contains vitamin C, B1, B2, B3, B4, and B12, as well as essential minerals including potassium, calcium, sodium, manganese, magnesium, silicon, iron, lithium, and copper. AMINOMETHYL PROPANOL
Products we use it in: Utility Wash
What it is: Aminomethyl propranolol is an aliphatic alcohol used in cosmetic products to balance pH levels. Aminomethyl propanol receives criticism as a cosmetic ingredient because it can cause irritation, particularly in the eyes. However, studies have found aminomethyl propanol to be safe for use in quantities of 2% or less in cosmetic formulas. Beardbrand uses less than 1% aminomethyl propanol in Beardbrand Utility Wash.
Why we use it: Aminomethyl propanol helps to make the pH levels of Beardbrand Utility Wash similar to the skin’s pH. It also helps other beneficial ingredients penetrate the skin.

BABASSU OIL
Products we use it in: Utility Oil
What it is: Babassu oil, also known as, "Orbignya Oleifera Seed Oil," is a tropical oil extracted from the seeds of babassu palm trees.
Why we use it: Babassu oil is packed with antioxidants and healthy fats and is known for its anti-inflammatory benefits for the skin. It is lightweight, non-greasy, and absorbs quickly.

BEHENTRIMONIUM CHLORIDE
Products we use it in: Utility Softener
What it is: Behentrimonium chloride is an organic compound made from colza oil obtained from brassica rapa subsp. oleifera (the turnip rape plant). It has a wax-like consistency and is an effective conditioning ingredient.
Why we use it: Behentrimonium chloride conditions, detangles, fights static, softens, and helps to straighten hair. Because it’s plant-based, it doesn’t coat the hair. Instead, it penetrates the hair shaft and provides deeper conditioning.

What it is: Benzoic acid occurs naturally in many plants and its salts are commonly used as a preservative. Benzoic acid has been around since the 16th century.

What it is: Shea butter is extracted from the fruit of shea trees and is rich in Vitamin A and E.

What it is: Caprylic/Capric triglycerides are fatty acids that were separated from coconut or palm kernel oils. These emollients help soften and condition the skin.
Why we use it: Caprylic/Capric triglycerides help give the Utility Bar a silky smooth feel and allow the ingredients in Beardbrand Styling Paste and Utility Bar to penetrate the skin while creating a light, non-greasy protective barrier on the surface.

What it is: Caprylyl glycol is naturally derived from caprylic acid found in coconut milk. It’s often used in cosmetics as a humectant and preservative.
Why we use it: Caprylyl glycol has potent antibacterial, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory properties which help Beardbrand Styling Paste maintain its freshness. As a humectant, it also helps the skin retain moisture.

What it is: Cera Flava and Cera Alba are types of beeswax produced by bees. Cera Flava is yellow wax that comes directly from the honeycomb. Cera Alba is white beeswax created by bleaching yellow beeswax.
Why we use it: Beeswax helps to form a light barrier on the skin, allowing it to retain moisture.

What it is: Ceteareth-25 is made from cetearyl alcohol and is commonly used as an emulsifier and surfactant in cosmetics.

Why we use it: Cocamidopropyl betaine is a mild surfactant with good foaming and cleansing properties. It also helps thicken up Beardbrand Utility Wash.

Glycerin is a known humectant that attracts moisture out of the air and is commonly used in cosmetic products due to its lubricating and conditioning abilities. Glycerin is also an effective carrier oil and is often paired with other skin-softening ingredients because it helps evenly distribute them throughout the formulation.
Why we use it: Beardbrand uses vegetable-based glycerin. Glycerin is used in trace amounts as a carrier oil in Beardbrand Sea Salt Spray, helping disperse the natural preservative, grapefruit seed extract, throughout the product. In Beardbrand Utility Wash and Utility Softener, glycerin is used for its ability to lock in moisture.

What it is: Prunus dulcis (sweet almond) oil is an oil extracted from almonds through cold-pressing. Cold-pressing yields a higher quality of oil than heat extraction.
Why we use it: Prunus dulcis (sweet almond) oil is a natural source of vitamin E, which promotes skin renewal. It penetrates quickly into the skin and can be used to gently dislodge dirt, sweat, and other impurities from pores and hair follicles. It has been shown to be an excellent remedy for eczema and psoriasis. It even has the ability to prevent acne due to the vitamin A content it possesses. When applied to the hair, it restores the protective oil barrier, adds shine, and softens the entire hair shaft.

Why we use it: Ricinus Communis (castor) oil is an incredibly versatile oil and key ingredient in Beardbrand Beard Oil and Utility Bars.
