Buffalo Jackson Flannels and Vintage Briefcase

Nothing quite soothes the beardsman’s soul like the soft feel of flannel or the smell of new leather. Scratch your itch for something new by grabbing a plaid and a bag from Buffalo Jackson.

Founder Xan Hood started Buffalo Jackson outside of Charlotte, North Carolina in 2009 on a single word – honor. He wanted his brand to represent “A time when clothing and men seemed to have ideals that were reflected and infused as one of the same. In today’s culture that is infatuated with tomorrow, much of that has disappeared.”

Hood wants to provide a clothing line that conjures up the rich images of our past, images full of tradition and camaraderie and character that is true to our heritage and America. He hopes to honor the men of our past in clothes that bring to mind a rugged gentleman.

That’s my kind of company.

It’s In The Bag

Buffalo Jackson offers more than 15 different styles of business bags, backpacks, padfolios, and luggage made from a variety of leather and canvas. The duffle bags and messenger bags are both classic and sturdy. These are kind of items that are “…equally at home deep in the woods and in the first class cabin of an international flight.”

I picked up the Everett Vintage Leather Briefcase Bag in camel. Right out of the box this bag looked worn and broken in while at the same time looking new. It’s full grain leather with brass and iron hardware were rugged indeed. It has a main zippered compartment that will hold a 15” laptop and much more. At 8” deep, it can handle several books with ease. I liked the small front pocket and two snap end pockets as well. The lining is a strong olive green canvas. Pair it with the matching Everett Duffle to cruse through the airport in style.

The Quest For The Perfect Flannel

I also snagged two of their flannels, and boy I’m glad I did. Xan says “Some men seem to be on an endless quest for the ‘Goldilocks’ flannel – you know, the one that’s just right.” Buffalo Jackson responded to that concept by saying “Screw the quest, just make a good, long lasting flannel and be done with it already. Is it the one? Probably not because, well, it’s a shirt.” Admittedly, I’ve become a bit of a flannel show and these met all expectations.

My take on it? These shirts are heavy, thick, and superbly made. I’ve had so many flannels that look great in the store and then fizzle to nothing when you wash them. Not this one. The fit and feel are fantastic. Two buttoned pockets and buttoned collar are great too. I love the buffalo tag on the pocket and the front tail. Combine it with one of their quilted vests and you are ready to brave the elements.

Buffalo Jackson’s motto is “Honor Your Wild.” Keep it honest and keep it wild with these great products from a company that values living well and honoring the traditions of America. Check out their ties, oxford shirts, and hats as well.
