The Polaroid Socialmatic

Many of us remember the nostalgia of the original Polaroid Cameras and their instant prints. Polaroid’s business peaked in 1991 with sales close to $3 billion, but the digital revolution required Polaroid to evolve. With the new Polaroid Socialmatic Instant Digital Camera it appears the company is poised for a comeback.

Available in black and white, the Socialmatic has a 14 megapixel frontal camera and a 2 megapixel rear camera. It features a 4.5″ touchscreen, android interface, 4GB of internal storage and stereo speakers. In addition there is a TF/Micro SD card slot. Built in wi-fi, GPS, and bluetooth capability can be used to pair with your smartphone or print remotely.

The Socialmatic has a built-in, earth-friendly instant printer that uses zero-ink paper. Polaroid calls it Zink. Prints are 2″x3″ and not sensitive to light. Photos are smudge-proof, water and tear resistant. Each one has a peel-off back to make the photo a sticker ($24.99 for 50 sheets, $14.99 for 30 sheets).

Lastly, there is a line of dedicated accessories like cases, cradles and neck straps to round out the experience where digital meets vintage ($29.99).
